Petunia Pickle Bottom Abundance Boxy Bag

If you have ever had twins (or more than one child in diapers) you know that there is never enough space inside the average diaper bag. A "simple" outing requires packing a bag full of diapers, wipes, two changes of clothing, snacks, a random toy or two, and the entire contents of your purse. It's just not pretty. Only now it is pretty! Enter the Petunia Pickle Bottom Abundance Boxy Backpack. It's the newest bag from the company known for chic bags, unique designs, and attention to detail. They make diaper bags look beautiful. The Abundance Boxy Backpack from the 2011 Spring Collection is their first bag designed specifically with mothers of multiples in mind. (The bag pictured above is the Wistful Weekender from the Spring 2011 Collection.) I jumped at the chance to try one of these gorgeous new bags with my crew of multiple multiples. Diaper bags are no stranger to me. I have had at least one child in diapers for the last 8 years and at least 2 children in diapers for the last 6 1/2 years. In fact, when my second set of twins were born I had 6 children under the age of 6 and 5 of them in diapers. Diapers have become part of my life... and to make things even more interesting, I've always used cloth diapers. When you have multiples, you just can't pack light. When faced with the possibility of two (or more) hungry, crying babies needing a clean diaper, you have to be prepared. I always have a loaded diaper bag in my van so that I don't have to worry about running out of diapers or needing a spare outfit when one of the little ones makes a mess on himself while we're out. I pack an extra bag for outings so that we have snacks, extra diapers, and all of the necessities in a bag that can be put into the stroller. Petunia Pickle Bottom's Abundance Boxy Backpack is the perfect solution for moms of multiple little ones. The bag can be worn as a backpack (to keep hands free!) or carried using the messenger strap. One of my favorite features is that the bag can be used with Petunia Pickle Bottom's Valet Stroller Clips so that it can be securely attached to the handle of your stroller. For me, this is a big deal because our stroller is a Quad Runabout and doesn't have the traditional under seat storage of a standard stroller. There is only one storage basket under my stroller so the ability to hang my diaper bag from the stroller handle is a huge benefit. I can pack everything I need without worrying about carrying a loaded diaper bag. Like any good diaper bag, the Abundance Boxy Backpack includes a detachable changing pad and the entire bag has a wipeable exterior fabric (that is PVC-free) for easy cleaning. The front of the bag actually unzips to reveal an entire diaper changing station, complete with the changing pad, a Petunia Pickle Bottom wipes case, and numerous pockets for organizing diaper changing supplies. I love the way this part of the bag is organized because I can keep my wipes solution right where I need it. I store my dry cloth wipes in the wipes case and add a bit of diaper wipe solution from my squirt bottle. The interior of the bag even includes a removable (velcro) zippered diaper pouch. I haven't used the diaper pouch for dirty diapers because I carry a larger, separate wet bag for our cloth diapers but I have found the pouch is perfect for holding my sunglasses so they don't wind up at the bottom of the bag. The interior of the Abundance Boxy Backpack is roomy enough to hold clothes and diapers for several little ones. I love it! This is the perfect diaper bag for multiples. I can easily fit enough cloth diapers and extra clothes for my youngest set of twins, sweaters for my older set of twins, several board books, a bag of snacks, 6 apples, 6 stainless steel water bottles, and the entire contents of my purse. The 4 bottle pockets are perfect for our water bottles and there are so many pockets inside the bag that it makes it easy to stay organized. Plus, there is a key clip at the very top of the inside of the bag so that I will never have to dig for my keys again. If you have ever stood in the rain, searching for your keys at the bottom of your bag while your children wait for you to load them into their car seats, you know you need that feature! And while they may not be a necessity, the chic design and modern fabric choices make this bag a fun and fashionable choice for any mom. Having multiples elevates many new moms to instant celebrity status and with a diaper bag like this, even more heads will turn. I actually feel like I have it all together when I leave the house with my Petunia Pickle Bottom designer diaper bag. (I don't, but it's still a good feeling!) Are you a mom of multiples or do you have several little ones in diapers? Tell me what you think you'd like about the new Abundance Boxy Backpack from Petunia Pickle Bottom and you could win one!

  1. I dont have mulitiples YET! But my daughter is in cloth diapers and I have been on the search of a really good bag for storage of her daipers and all her other things. We are currently about to start trying for number two so I know I will soon need a bigger bag! Tht is beter organized as I will have two babies in daipers. (or who knows maybe three, twins run in the family!!)
I really like that fold out change area with the pockets that would be amazing!! I can never find what im looking for when Im changing her diapers and this would defently help!!!

  3. Ok, first of all, I love love love the designs! They make having little ones in diapers stylish. There isn't a material I don't like. I love these bags so much...the key holder, the fact that is is large enough to hold 6 water bottles!? Ridiculous. I NEEEED one of these bags.... :)

  4. Wow!! Amazing bag. I love the convenience of a hands free bag plus all the organization features. But I really love that the exterior is wipeable. (and beautiful!!) I have an 8 month old & 2 year old (who refuses to have any interest in the toilet-he lays down next to the baby & tells me he's a baby too when he needs a diaper change!) & a 4 year old (not in diapers but still needs drinks & snacks). -Sarah B : sarah(at)Broadweave.net

  5. This would be great for me to use for my girls, who are "2 under 2". Right now we use two diapers bags when out and about ... bc we don't look like enough of a 3-ring circus when we go out we need to carry another thing, right? ;) PS: I also keep a diaper bag packed up and ready to go in the car. Best idea ever! I always repack it 1st thing after we get home so it can go back in the car and be ready.

    thanks! :) Heather

  6. I am not a mom of biological multiples, but I am mom to a 4 year old boy, a 16 week old foster baby boy, and a 12 week old foster baby boy! (we also recently said goodbye to our 8 year old foster BOY - girls are apparently not in my future, ha)

I think the thing I'd like most about the Abundance Boxy Backpack is the size and the design. We manage right now with a giant tote bag, but it is a pocketless tote and everything just falls in the bottom. In addition to that, I look like a hobo with this tote. It's hard with two foster infants, a preschooler, and a husband in grad school to be able to have nicer things for myself. I have always loved the Petunia Picklebottom fabrics and designs. They make you feel like a designer woman...not a hobo mom. Thanks for the review and the chance to win!

  7. This sounds great. I have b/g twins (2 1/2) and a 17 mo old...so we are crazy over here when it comes to getting evryone ready and packed to get out of the house! A new roomy bag would be great. We love ppb! I have a touring tote...but rarely get to use it b/c we need more room

  8. Thank you for this review! This bag looks amazing. I have a little one, and we always find that bags don't fit everything that I need to bring. We also bring a little chair for her for restaurants that that takes up a lot of room too. I can't wait to try this bag. LOVE LOVE PPB!!

  9. What I love the most is that it doesn't look like a diaper bag--I don't have a baby (yet) myself but would love to win this as we have a bunch of new babies in our family and I'd love to give this as an amazing gift.

  11. One of my dearest friends just found out she is having twins! What a wonderful gift this would be to a woman who has been waiting for a baby for so long ... and now she's blessed with 2! Love PPB!!

  12. I have little boy turning 2 in March and a little person on the way in June... and a high maintenance son who will be 6 in early June. Yikes!!! I have been thinking about the newer, bigger PPB for totting around all their stuff, and love having the insight. Thank you!!!

  13. Oooh I LOVE the designs! And I too was looking for a GREAT bag for twins. Now that my twins are almost 3 they dont so much need a diaper bag anymore. I'm still taking two sets of clothes and diapers with me in the car though, snacks and toys everywhere i go...AND im having another set of twins in june.
So THIS would really be perfect! My first set are boys and now im having girls.
Thank you Heather for this review, its definitely got me looking at these diaper bags!

  14. Thanks so much for the review! I was considering saving up for one of these (I have a 1 year old and a 2 year old). It is definitely great to hear about all the benefits from someone who actually has a PPB Abundance Boxy. I normally have 2 or 3 diaper bags in the car at any given time because normal diaper bags don't hold nearly enough for 2 babies. And since the PPB diaper bags are all beautifully and wonderfully made, you not only get the size advantage over other diaper bags, you get style and quality as well.
So, not only will I try to get one of the Abundance Boxy's, I will also be following your blog more because I love to hear about other moms with big families (I also have an almost 14 year old and a 9 year old), especially military parents (Army Brat myself, both my mom & dad were in, so I can somewhat relate, probably more with your kids though).
    Thanks again!

  15. That is totally cool that you took the plunge and got one. I am expecting our 2nd child and I was a bit hesitant on buying the Abundance Boxy Backpack, I was going to keep my PPB Boxy Backpack I have now but I am totally on board with the larger one now! Thanks for the hands on review, it rocks!

  17. I never win anything so I'm not holding my breath this time either lol.... but I would looooove that diaper bag. It's been soooo long since I've needed to carry a diaper bag, I hope I remember what I need to put in it!

  18. I'm normally a weekender girl for all the organization but thanks to your post I'm heavily considering the abundance boxy!!! I found the regular boxy fell short of my needs but with this bag I could actually pack what I need for a day trip! While I can do that in my weekender, there is only one carry option. We don't use a stroller as we babywear so when we go places like the RenFaire, zoo, Civil War Reenactments, etc. that backpack option would be fabulous!!! I'd LOVE to win one - especially because I'm head over heels for this print because I'm only second generation - my grandparents were born and grew up in Amsterdam. :)

  19. Ahh! Another mom to two sets of twins! I have a 7 year old who lost his twin brother at 3 1/2 to a heart condition and a set of 3 year old boy/girl twins. We went through so many different diaper bags. They all have their perks but nothing was perfect. I love how pretty Petunia Pickle Bottom diaper bags are, that the changing pads are PVC free, the valet stroller clips, and the ability t wear it as a backpack. All multiples mommies know how hard it is to juggle an overstuffed diaper bag that keeps slipping off your shoulder while holding 2 (or more little people). I wish you would have held this giveaway a few months ago when I had 3 kids 2 and under in diapers. We just toilet trained our twins but that means I'm shlepping around 2 changes of clothing with my 1 year olds diapers along with all other paraphanelia. A pretty and practical Petunia PickleBottom bag would be really nice.

  21. I am a mama to be of a singleton but I LOVE PPB!!! I would love a boxy as I love the hands free aspect of it, and I plan to cloth diaper (and wipes) too so I like that it's a bit bigger than some of the others. I also travel and go on day trips a lot, so the more room, the better!

  35. I have a daughter and a son on the way (due in July), and I've been eyeing this very diaper bag to carry all their stuff in! Plus, we travel a lot, so a roomy diaper bag is a necessity for those times I have to pack extra bottles and changes of clothes and toys and diapers to last an entire day. I'm switching to cloth diapers soon since with the new baby I plan to be a stay-at-home mom full-time, too! LOVE Petunia Picklebottom!

  36. Room, room, and more room. That's what I would appreciate in a diaper bag. I thought as my boys got older we wouldn't need to lug as much stuff around. Boy was I wrong. With one potty training (finally!) and the other a perputal mess (the kid has never met frosting that he hasn't ended up wearing on his pants, shirt, and places you can't imagine how it got there!) I carry more clothes now than I did when they were infants. Add that to the fact that I now have to carry all their juices, water, snacks, 2nd snacks for when they decide they don't like their first snacks I feel like I am lugging everything but the kitchen sink in our bag which is woefully too small and doesn't have enough pockets so everything ends up in a giant heap at the bottom of the bag. The Petunia Picklebottom looks like an awesome bag - thanks for the chance to win!

  41. I NEED THIS BAG! I have a 7 weeks old baby in cloth diaper & I am an overpacker myself. When we pack for a day trip my bag ends up weighing 10lbs!!! That slows me down so much, and I have muscle strain by the end of the day. :( I've tried multiple baby bags, but I have not found "The one" yet. I have a feeling this might be it since it has huge space, evens out the load on both shoulders and the gorgeous gorgeous print! :D

    Thanks again!

I'm having my 2nd baby in april (have a 2 yr old, not potty trained yet!) so i will be doing the many diapers thing ;) My last bag was a cheap-o from walmart, and lasted me about 4 months w/ my ds, and then the lovely magnet broke and then bag wouldnt close! So this time around i'm looking for a nice, BIG bag that will last for me :) Good luck to whoever wins! - sarah

  78. i was looking at my friend's original boxy backpack, and she was raving about how much stuff fit into it. i agreed that it was a great bag...if only it were BIGGER (especially since i have a 19 month old, a baby on the way, and tend to be a heavy packer in the first place)!!!! i looked online to discover that petunia pickle bottom DID come out with a bigger bag, so now i'm totally sold. i've gone through three diaper bags already, and they either started falling apart, were too small, or didn't offer the hands-free backpack option, three problems i don't foresee having with the abundance bag. i would love to get my hands on one of these!
